OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL

FIRST LET'S GO OVER THE CONTROLS AND SAFETY FEATURES OF YOUR MODERN SPORTING RIFLE.  THE FOLLOWING PARTS AND FEATURES ARE FOUND ON THE STANDARD RIFLE HOWEVER YOUR RIFLE MAY DIFFER SLIGHTLY.  IF IT DOES FEEL FREE TO CONTACT US IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS AND WE WILL HELP YOU LEARN HOW TO SAFELY USE AND MAINTAIN YOUR RIFLE.

SAFETY SELECTOR:

ON THE STANDARD RIFLE THE SAFETY SELECTOR SWITCH IS FOUND ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE LOWER RECEIVER.  THIS WILL BE RIGHT ABOVE THE PISTOL GRIP.  AFTER YOU HAVE PULLED BACK AND RELEASED THE CHARGING HANDLE YOU CAN TURN THE SAFETY SWITCH TO SAFE.   INSERT A LOADED MAGAZINE, PULL THE CHARGING HANDLE AND RELEASE IT.  NOW YOUR RIFLE WILL BE ON SAFE AND LOADED, A ROUND CHAMBERED AND READY TO AQUIRE YOUR TARGET.  IN ORDER TO FIRE YOUR RIFLE SIMPLY MOVE THE SAFETY SWITCH TO FIRE AND SQUEEZE THE TRIGGER.

TO PUT THE RIFLE BACK ON SAFE AFTER THE LAST ROUND IN A MAGAZINE IS FIRED SIMPLY MOVE THE LEVER TO SAFE AND REMOVE THE MAGAZINE, INSERT A LOADED MAGAZINE AND HIT THE BOLT RELEASE LEVER TO DROP THE BOLT ON A NEW ROUND.  FLIP THE SAFETY TO FIRE AND YOU ARE READY TO CONTINUE FIRING.

SAFETY SELECTOR                                                                 CHARGING HANDLE                                                 BOLT RELEASE AND HOLD OPEN Lever

CHARGING HANDLE:

THE CHARGING HANDLE IS LOCATED ON THE UPPER RECEIVER AT THE REAR,  (CLOSEST TO YOUR FACE).  THE RELEASE FOR THIS IS FOUND ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE "T" HANDLE.  ON AN AMBIDEXTROUS CHARGING HANDLE BOTH SIDES WILL RELEASE THE HANDLE.  THE CHARGING HANDLE, WHEN PULLED BACK, PULLS THE BOLT CARRIER GROUP BACK, PAST THE TOP ROUND IN THE MAGAZINE AND ALSO COCKS THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY.  WHEN YOU RELEASE THE HANDLE THE BOLT CARRIER GROUP WILL BE PUSHED FORWARD BY THE BUFFER AND BUFFER SPRING, STRIPPING THE TOP ROUND OUT OF THE MAGAZINE AND PUSHING IT INTO THE CHAMBER, LOCKING THE BOLT AND MAKING THE RIFLE READY TO FIRE.  SIMPLY FLIP THE SAFETY TO FIRE AND YOUR RIFLE IS READY TO SHOOT.  CAUTION:  WHEN YOU PULL BACK ON THE CHARGING HANDLE JUST LET IT GO, DO NOT "RIDE" IT DOWN.  THIS MAY CAUSE THE BOLT TO NOT COMPLETELY GO INTO BATTERY AND YOUR RIFLE WILL NOT FIRE.  THE FORWARD ASSIST WILL FIX THIS AND WILL BE COVERED NEXT.

FORWARD ASSIST:

IF FOR SOME REASON YOUR BOLT DOES NOT GO COMPLETELY INTO BATTERY, (LOCKED IN THE CHAMBER AND READY TO FIRE), SIMPLY PUSH THE FORWARD ASSIST IN UNTIL THE BOLT CARRIER GROUP IS FULLY FORWARD AND LOCKED.

                                                                                FORWARD ASSIST IF EQUIPT

MAGAZINE RELEASE:

THIS BUTTON IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE MAGAZINE WELL AND WHEN PRESSED WILL RELEASE THE MAGAZINE FROM THE RIFLE.  IN ORDER TO INSERT THE MAGAZINE INTO THE MAG WELL SIMPLY PUSH THE MAGAZINE AS FAR AS IT WILL GO INTO THE MAG WELL.  YOU WILL HEAR A CLICK, THAT WILL MEAN THE MAGAZINE FULLY SEATED IN ITS PROPER POSITION.  AS AN ADDED BIT OF INSURANCE YOU CAN TAP THE BOTTOM OF THE MAGAZINE WITH THE PALM OF YOUR HAND TO BE SURE IT IS FULLY SEATED.

                                                                                    MAGAZINE RELEASE BUTTON

LAST ROUND BOLT HOLD OPEN AND RELEASE:

AS YOU PULL THE TRIGGER AND YOUR RIFLE FIRES A ROUND, THE EMPTY SHELL CASING WILL BE EXTRACTED FROM THE CHAMBER AND EJECTED FROM THE EJECTION PORT.  THE FIRST TIME THE BOLT MOVES THE DUST COVER DOOR WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE OPENED AND WILL STAY OPEN UNTIL YOU MANUALLY CLOSE IT. THE PURPOSE OF THIS DOOR IS SIMPLY TO KEEP DIRT OUT OF YOUR RIFLE WHEN IT IS NOT IN USE.

WHEN THE LAST ROUND IS FIRED THE FOLLOWER IN THE MAGAZINE WILL PUSH UP ON THE BOLT HOLD OPEN LEVER AND KEEP THE BOLT FROM MOVING FORWARD MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO DROP THE EMPTY MAGAZINE AND INSERT A LOADED MAGAZINE.

TO RELOAD A NEW ROUND, PUT A LOADED MAGAZINE INTO THE MAG WELL AND HIT THE TOP OF THE BOLT HOLD OPEN / BOLT RELEASE LEVER AND THE BOLT WILL MOVE FORWARD PUTTING A FRESH ROUND IN THE CHAMBER AND MAKING YOUR RIFLE READY TO FIRE.

IF YOU WISH TO CLOSE THE BOLT ON AN EMPTY CHAMBER, REMOVE THE MAGAZINE AND HIT THE TOP OF THE LEVER.  TO MAKE THE BOLT STAY BACK WITHOUT A MAGAZINE, LOADED OR EMPTY, PULL THE BOLT ALL THE WAY TO THE REAR WITH THE CHARGING HANDLE AND EITHER PULL OUT ON THE TOP OF THE BOLT RELEASE LEVER OR PUSH IN ON THE BOTTOM OF THE LEVER.

PUSH BOTTOM TO HOLD BOLT OPEN                               PUSH TOP TO CLOSE BOLT OR PULL TO HOLD                                                                                                                                                                BOLT OPEN

DUST / EJECTION PORT COVER:

THE DUST /EJECTION PORT COVER WILL OPEN ANY TIME THE BOLT MOVES AND WILL STAY OPEN UNTIL YOU MANUALLY CLOSE IT.

DUST COVER CLOSED                                                                 DUST COVER OPEN

TRIGGER OPERATION:

THE STANDARD TRIGGER IN THE AR15 STYLE RIFLE IS A SINGLE STAGE TRIGGER.  THIS MEANS THAT AFTER THE BOLT IS PULLED BACK AND THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY IS COCKED, WHEN YOU PRESS THE TRIGGER BACK SLOWLY YOU WILL FEEL A POINT WHERE THE TRIGGER STOPS.  THIS IS SOMETIMES CALLED THE "TAKE UP".  IF YOU CONTINUE PRESSING THE TRIGGER TO THE REAR IT WILL RELEASE THE HAMMER CAUSING THE HAMMER TO GO FORWARD STRIKING THE FIRING PIN AND PUSHING IT INTO THE PRIMER ON THE SHELL CASING INGITING THE POWDER AND PUSHING THE BULLET OUT OF THE BARREL.

WHEN THE BOLT MOVES TO THE REAR TO EXTRACT AND EJECT THE SPENT SHELL IT WILL RESET THE TRIGGER ASSEMBLY, PUSH FORWARD AND RELOAD ANOTHER ROUND. THIS ALL HAPPENS IN A SMALL FRACTION OF A SECOND.

WHEN YOU FIRE A ROUND DON'T LET GO OF THE TRIGGER BUT SLOWLY LET IT COME FORWARD AND YOU WILL HEAR AND FEEL A CLICK, THIS IS THE TRIGGER RESET.  TO FIRE ANOTHER ROUND PRESS THE TRIGGER REARWARD AND THE CYCLE STARTS OVER AGAIN.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH DRY FIRING AN UNLOADED FIREARM AS LONG AS IT IS NOT A RIM FIRE CARTRIDGE LIKE A .22 LR.  DRY FIRING A CENTER FIRE CARTRIDGE FIREARM ONLY PUSHES THE FIRING PIN INTO AN EMPTY CHAMBER.

ADJUSTABLE STOCK:

IF YOU HAVE A RIFLE WITH AN ADJUSTABLE STOCK YOU CAN LENGHTEN OR SHORTEN THE OVERALL LENGTH OF THE RIFLE TO MAKE IT MORE COMFORTABLE TO SHOOT.  MOST ADJUSTABLE STOCKS OPERATE THE SAME WAY, SQUEEZE THE RELEASE LEVER AND MOVE THE STOCK FORWARD OR BACKWARDS TILL IT BEST FITS YOUR BODY.  IT CAN ALSO BE FULLY COLLAPSED TO MAKE THE RIFLE SHORTER FOR EASIER STORAGE.

                                                                           ADJUSTABLE STOCK RELEASE LEVER

FRONT SIGHT ADJUSTMENT

ON THE STANDARD FRONT SIGHT YOU CAN ADJUST FOR ELEVATION.  THIS IS DONE BY DEPRESSING THE SMALL DETENT IN THE SIGHT HOUSING AND MOVING THE FRONT SIGHT POST UP OR DOWN AS NEEDED.

THERE IS A TOOL MADE FOR THIS OR YOU CAN USE THE TIP OF A BULLET TO PUSH THE DETENT DOWN AND ROTATE THE SIGHT POST.

REAR SIGHT ADJUSTMENT:

THE STANDARD REAR SIGHT THAT IS MOUNTED OF A RAILED (FLAT TOP) UPPER RECEIVER IS ADJUSTABLE FOR WINDAGE LEFT OR RIGHT SIGHTING CORRECTION.  THERE WILL BE A DIAL ON THE REAR SIGHT TO MAKE THIS ADJUSTMENT.

FOR BOTH OF THESE ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS YOU WILL NEED TO SHOT AND ADJUST TO SEE JUST HOW YOUR RIFLE WILL FUNCTION BASED ON YOUR ADJUSTMENTS.
